Thickness finding for complex conditions

Acoustic fields, formed in solid half-space by small aperture sources of normal and tangent forces are investigated. Methods of ultrasonic testing, using transducers with dry point contact and electro-magnetic acoustic transducers are proposed. Results of investigated of multi-elements antenna are presented the examples of solving the specific tasks for testing the concrete structures, rails, welds and others a given. The information about the new up-to-date digital equipment, developed basing on information technologies is presented.

The significant role in effective production and safe exploitation of structures play technologies and means of Nondestructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics, based on different principles of materials and fields interaction.

Ultrasonic Imaging For Concrete Infrasturcture Condition Assesment and Quality Assurance (MIRA)

The service report describes work on laboratory and field performance reviews of an ultrasonic shear wave imaging device called MIRA for application to plain and reinforced concrete infrastructure components. Potential applications investigated included bridge deck delamination detection, deck thickness profiles, and detection of internal steel bars and dowels. Based on the observed performance of the unit, three classification categories of applications were defined: field ready, potentially ready, and challenging. In general, the MIRA device is not well suited to provide full-coverage rapid scans over an entire structure. Rather MIRA is more suited for targeted inspection or failure analysis to determine general geometric and internal features of concrete elements because MIRA is able to be quickly deployed for spot inspections with little site preparation. A user’s manual was produced to assist in introducing new users to the proper operation and interpretation of the MIRA device.

The MIRA ultrasonic shear wave imaging device consists of an array of shear wave transducers. The transducers used are proprietary and employ a new dry-point contact design, which requires no traditional couplant. This feature allows the device to quickly employ 12 rows of four transducers with every scan, resulting in a rich ultrasound dataset. The ultrasound dataset is processed using a synthetic aperture focusing technique (SAFT) to identify strong reflectors. The resulting crosssectional datasets can be further compiled into a single large dataset and interpolated to construct 3D representations of the internal structure.

OpenVision DX Digital CUI Scanning System

OpenVision DX is an easy to use, digital x-ray system with live video output for real-time radiographic inspection and reporting. A patent-pending combination of a c-arm mounted 70 kV x-ray source and a digital imager allows you to observe external defects as small as 0.010-inch (250μm) on insulated piping.

OpenVision DX can be used on various insulation and cladding combinations, including mineral wool and calcium silicate with galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum cladding up to 36 inches (91 cm) in total diameter.

ALMO

The ALMO alarm monitors are designed to be installed to measure dose rate levels in laboratories and production facilities. The systems consist of a head unit with LC dis-play and electronics, combined with one or more probes and external alarm units. Depending on the version, it is possible to connect 1, 3 or 6 detectors to the ALMO head units. The dose rates of the multi-channel systems (ALMO-3 and ALMO-6) are dis-played individually for each channel. The stand-alone ALMO-systems can be connected to a PC-system for central monitoring and data recording

Sentineltm 880 Series Gamma-Ray Source Projectors

Model 880 devices are used for industrial applications of gamma radiography, mainly with Iridium192, to inspect materials and structures in the density range of approximately 2.71 g/cm3 through 8.53g/cm3. The Model 880 devices also accommodate low energy isotopes to permit radiography of materials and structures of thin sections of steel and low-density alloys. They are also designed for use with low activity sources with high photon energies that are used for mass absorption (gamma scanning) studies of high-density materials up to 18.7 g/cm3.

Sentineltm 1075 Scar Pro

The Sentineltm 1075 Scarpro is a dual-mode gamma ray source projector designed for 24/7 gamma radiography applications using Selenium-75. It can be configured in one of two radiography modes of operation. A collimator directly attached to the device allows for small controlled area radiography (SCAR) applications. When not performing SCAR, the collimator is replaced by a conventional front plate assembly for radiography applications requiring guide tubes. Changing between the two configurations is quick, easy, and safe, but must only be done by qualified technicians with the proper tools and training.

Sentineltm Sentry Series Co-60 Gamma-Ray Source Projectors

The Model Sentry 110 and Sentry 330 are radiographic exposure devices used for industrial applications of gamma radiography with Cobalt-60 to inspect materials and structures.
